The sun illuminates the cloudy sky
With spots of brightness by and by
And far away the streaks of light
Mean someone basks in sunshine bright.
When clouds would over-paint the sun
And make me think the day is done,
I must remember, then, the sight
Of deepest darkness, near midnight.
When I compare the day to night,
the clouds can't hope to dim the light.
And when I think that God's not there--
A vale of tears, a load to bear--
I must consider, then, the sight
Of deepest darkness, ôspirit night".
But then, I've never known a time
When God had "set", His pow'r sublime
Was truly absent from my life,
Regardless of this present strife.
His light to dark I can't compare;
I've never seen dark anywhere.
